In Xinjin District, Chengdu, homeowners aspire to have a leisure and aesthetic living space. However, the existing country villas have numerous shortcomings, making it difficult to meet their pursuit of a high-quality life. Specifically, these country villas have the following issues: the main entrance is centrally located, resulting in an unclear traffic flow; the windows are small, leading to severe lack of natural light; the first-floor bathroom is situated under the stairs, with a low ceiling that causes inconvenience; the kitchen is cramped; and the three bedrooms on the second floor are small and lack en-suite bathrooms.
To create an ideal residence that aligns with the homeowners’ retirement lifestyle, the designer drew inspiration from French country villas and carried out a comprehensive renovation. Targeting the original flaws, a series of effective measures were implemented: the position of the main entrance was adjusted, and the existing structural columns were relocated; meanwhile, the windows were enlarged with some of them were transformed into floor-to-ceiling windows based on the angle of sunlight, introducing ample sunlight inside and creating a warm and elegant atmosphere. Additionally, the location of the bathroom was redesigned; a new kitchen was built, with its ceiling serving as a balcony for the rooms on the second floor; two adjacent small rooms were merged, and a new bathroom, equipped with a double-basin sink, an independent bathtub, and a separate shower cubicle, and a walk-in closet.
In terms of material, the designer chose eggshell finish artistic paint. Combined with the enlarged windows, it incorporates the outdoor greenery into the interior view for a natural integration of indoor and outdoor spaces. After the renovation, not only have issues such as poor indoor lighting, unclear traffic flow, small rooms, and low door heights been resolved, but the entryway traffic flow and the traffic flow of the master bedroom on the second floor have also been replanned, making the entire space smoother and more rational.
This old country villa has been reimagined as a French-inspired retreat that blends artistic elegance with practical functionality, ushering in a leisurely retirement life for homeowners.
